I’m an associate professor of classics at the Johns Hopkins University. I teach and write about Latin literature, Roman culture, classical reception, and the history of race, and I’m currently working with Dr Arum Park to develop an open-access online resource about race and antiquity.
My first book, The Poetics of Power in Augustan Rome (Cambridge 2018), explores the role of Vergil, Ovid, and other Latin poets in constructing and critiquing the public image of Rome’s upstart emperor, Augustus.
I’m working on a second project about Roman diversity for Princeton University Press and a third on applied classics for Yale. I write often for scholarly and broader audiences, notably from 2017-2020 for Eidolon, and I advocate for a more socially relevant, inclusive, and supportive academy.
In my free time, I enjoy traveling, scuba diving, and cocktails and conversation with friends, my husband Laurent, and our feline overlords Lola and Mirepoix.
